Myofascial Release
What Is It?
Overworked muscles often become tight and develop knots or “trigger points”. Chronic tightness produces inflammation and swelling. Your provider will apply pressure with their hands or with specialized tools, in order to release muscle tightness and soft-tissue restrictions. This will help to improve your circulation, relieve pain, and restore flexibility.
The techniques that fall into the category of myofascial release can be passive, where the practitioner will apply pressure to tight regions of muscles and mobilise the area; active, where the provider may apply pressure to tight regions of muscles and ask you to contract that muscle to increase the effect; or mechanically assisted, where the provider may use a percussive massage gun or similar device to work on tight muscles.
